Great Decisions Group to meet Feb. 5
The Great Decisions group at the Mancos Public Library will have its first meeting of 2015 on Thursday, Feb. 5, at 3:30 p.m. in the Community Meeting Room. The group is seeking new members to join a discussion group, which will usually hold meetings on the first Thursday of each month from 3:30 to 5 p.m.
The program involves reading one chapter each month from the Great Decisions Booklet, watching a segment of the DVD at the meeting, and participating in a group discussion about a designated global issue.
The eight topics for Great Decisions 2015 are: Russia and the Near Abroad, Privacy in the Digital Age, Sectarianism in the Middle East, India Changes Course, U.S. Policy Toward Africa, Syria's Refugee Crisis, Human Trafficking in the 21st Century, and Brazil's Metamorphosis.

Horsemen plan monthly meeting
The Four Corners Back Country Horsemen will hold their monthly meeting on Thursday, Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. at the Pine River Senior Center in Bayfield. Guests are welcome.

Special-crop symposium planned
A speciality-crop symposium for current and aspiring growers is scheduled March 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Lewis-Arriola Community Center, 1 mile west of Highway 491 in Arriola.
The hosts will be Fort Lewis College, the Colorado State College Extension and the New Mexico State Extension.
Speakers will discuss common pests of fruits and vegetables, herbicides, mushrooms for soil remediation, specialty-berry production and growing grain fodder.

Library hosts presentation on book
The Mancos Public Library will host a presentation with Katrina Blair and Jaime Becktel about the book "The Wild Wisdom of Weeds" on Thursday, at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 26.
Local author Blair and Mancos artist Jaime Becktel, will present a slideshow of the 13 essential plants for human survival featured in the new book, "The Wild Wisdom of Weeds." Blair will share edible treats made from the recipes included in the book, and Becktel will talk about rendering the botanical drawings for the book.
Dog training classes being offered
The La Plata County Humane Society announces that beginning in February, pranaDOGS will be providing weekly dog training classes for puppies and adults.
These four-week classes provide the fundamentals for building a strong and solid relationship with your canine.
