Competing at the Montrose Invitational on Jan. 10, the Dolores High School wrestling team placed 12th out of 14 teams.
Pacing Bears was 120-pound sophomore Tristan Medina, who finished with a 3-2 record and narrowly missed the podium.
Other performances include: 126-pound freshman Dustin Beltran finished 2-2, 132-pound freshman Logan Fuller went 2-2, 145-pound senior Guy Wallace finished 2-2 and 170-pound senior Guy Wallace finished 2-2.
Brandon Ward and Austin Hackney finished the tournament 1-2.
The Bears performance in Montrose came less than one week after Dolores defeated Shiprock at home on Jan. 6. Despite giving up 36 points in forfeits, Dolores won the dual 46-36.
Ward, Medina, Fuller, Wallace, Syra and Gatzke each notched victories. Gatzke's victory proved especially exciting as the senior won in overtime with a sudden takedown.
"The guys wrestled really well (against Shiprock) in front of the home crowd," said Dolores head coach Leo Garand. "Everybody is wrestling in their weight class now and we are rounding into form."
Next up for Dolores will be a dual against Newcomb, which will take place in Dolores on Jan. 20
