The Bureau of Land Management’s Tres Rios field office is soliciting comment on a proposal to use baited traps instead of helicopters to round up mustangs in the Spring Creek Basin in Disappointment Valley.
Periodic roundups are necessary to maintain an optimum herd level of 35 to 65 horses. More animals strain resources.
No roundup is scheduled this year.
The proposal for bait trapping was made in August 2014 by the Colorado Chapter of the National Mustang Association and the Four Corners and Mesa Verde backcountry horseman groups.
The Spring Creek herd-management area lies between Dove Creek and Norwood in the Disappointment Valley.
Comments about bait traps should be directed to Lindsey Eoff at the BLM Tres Rios Field Office, 29211 Highway 184, Dolores, CO 81323. Comment also may be sent to [email protected].
