The cost of upgrades has some officials questioning if it’s necessary – and how we’ll pay for it
ALTERNATIVE 1, PHASE 1: The airport terminal would continue operating while it is remodeled. Current parking lots would be expanded on three sides of the building. Terminal renovation: $44 million; parking: $5.4 million; road realignment: $4.7 million; tarmac: $4 million; all other costs (earthwork, utilities, planning costs, etc.): $24 million. The cost of phase 1 would be $83 million. The total cost of this alternative would be $141 million.
ALTERNATIVE 1, PHASE 2: The airport terminal would continue operating while it is remodeled. Current parking lots would be expanded on three sides of the building. Terminal expansion: $12 million; parking structure: $25 million; tarmac replacement: $3.2 million; all other costs: $17 million. The cost of phase 2 would be $58 million. The total cost of this alternative would be $141 million.
ALTERNATIVE 2, PHASE 1: A new airport terminal would be built next to the old one, and when it is complete, the old terminal would be torn down and turned into a parking lot. Parking would be expanded around the building. New terminal: $39 million; parking: $5.5 million; tarmac replacement: $4.9 million; road realignment: $5.3 million; all other costs: (earthwork, utilities, planning costs, etc.): $24 million. The cost of phase one would be $79 million. The total cost of this alternative would be $133 million.
ALTERNATIVE 2, PHASE 2: A new airport terminal would be built next to the old one, and when it is complete, the old terminal would be torn down and turned into a parking lot. Parking would be expanded around the building. Terminal expansion: $9 million; tarmac replacement: $3.2 million; parking structure: $25 million; all other costs: $17 million. The cost for Phase 2 would be $54 million. The total cost of this alternative would be $133 million.
ALTERNATIVE 3, PHASE 1: A new airport terminal and a new taxiway would be built on the east side of the runway. New terminal: $37 million; taxiway construction: $15 million; tarmac construction: $10 million; roadways access: $7 million; all other costs: $50 million. Phase 1 would cost $119 million. The total cost of this alternative would be $138 million.
ALTERNATIVE 3, PHASE 2: A new airport terminal and a new taxiway would be built on the east side of the runway. Terminal expansion: $9 million; tarmac: $2.2 million; all other costs: $8 million. The cost of phase 2 would be $19 million. The total cost of this alternative would be $134 million.
