Colorado launches child abuse hotline
Colorado has launched a statewide hotline to increase reporting of suspected cases of child abuse and neglect.
The hotline is based in Lamar with 12 staff. State officials say the center will be a hub for Colorado’s first child-abuse hotline of its kind.
The center will direct callers to the appropriate county to handle their report. The hotline will also assist the deaf and callers who don’t speak English or Spanish.
Callers to the hotline will be assisted 24 hours a day year-round. The hotline phone number is (844) 264-5437

2015 Junior Duck Stamp competition takes off
The Junior Duck Stamp Program is in full flight in Colorado, and all K-12 students are welcome to participate.
JDS participants employ scientific and wildlife observation principles to learn about the subject matter, and then communicate that knowledge visually by creating an entry to the JDS art contest.
The JDS contest begins each winter as students submit their artwork to their state coordinator. Students at the state level are then judged in four groups, according to grade level. Three first-, second- and third-place entries as well as many honorable mentions are selected for each group. A “best of show” is then chosen by the judges from the first-place winners. Each state’s best of show is submitted to the Duck Stamp Office in Washington, D.C., and entered into the national contest.
The first-place design from the national contest is used to create the official Junior Duck Stamp for the next year.
All entries must be postmarked by March 15. An award ceremony to honor the top 100 state winners and participating schools will be held at the Arvada Center in May.
For details, contact Seth Beres at http://www.fws.gov/juniorduck/ArtContest.htm.
