I, on behalf of city duck feeders, wish to express concern for how the city parks and recreation department is lax in filling the ducks’ pond completely. They have only a hot tub-size area to get to, which is so dirty and now contaminated!
If anyone saw/knew their hot tub was the least bit scummy they would drain it and put in fresh water. Please have compassion for our beloved ducks, island and pond. I’m sure it doesn’t matter to the ducks if the dredging isn’t finished. Just fill it up all around the island and start dredging again next summer.
One worker said the little part is deeper than the old pond. I couldn’t believe this lack of concern. Ducks were brought to this pond created for them more than 60 years ago when the park was built — 50 years longer than Parque de Vida. The ducks have had this pond and island their nesting home, and I can see why they do not want to cross the road.
When I feed them, as many ducks as can are sitting on the ice or trying to find comfort in the hot tub-size pond. Ducks sit on ice to warm the ice to drink as well as to try to swim.
Why don’t ducks cross the road? Because they love their established home. Thank you.
