I am 67, and I can tell you that feeding birds has long been under scrutiny. While appropriate food, season and feeder must be considered, wildlife authorities agree there is no harm in feeding birds from feeders. Kate Burke’s recent column “Feeding Wildlife is bad for them – and us,” (Journal, Dec. 12) makes the backyard feeder sound treacherous. I am no expert, but I do not believe this is accurate. National Wildlife, Audubon and National Geographic all sell bird feeders, and I think they are well-informed as to the risks and benefits. I will continue to enjoy my front and backyard visitors with a clear conscience.
