Since the start of the 2006 season, the Dolores High School boys basketball team has not defeated Ignacio, losing 13 straight times to their San Juan Basin League opponents.
The Bears latest loss came on the road on Dec. 18, when the Ignacio, bolstered by 20 points from Adison Jones, won 66-31 and improved to 4-2 on the season.
"(Ignacio's) five starters are as tough as you'll ever see," said Dolores head coach Larry Schwartz. "We just had no answer for the two big boys inside. They pretty much took it to us in the paint."
Ignacio led 33-12 at halftime and stretched their lead to 44-12 after opening the third quarter on an 11-0 run.
Among the bright spots for Dolores was junior Ben Lykins, who led Dolores in scoring and assisted on several Bears buckets.
"Ben Lykins is having an outstanding season," said Schwartz. "He's shooting well from the outside and distributing."
With their record now at 0-4 on the season, the Bears will practice over Christmas break and look to improve in the New Year. Among the team's goals is improving its scoring on the low block.
"We're trying to find that guy who wants to score inside," said Schwartz. "Hopefully we'll have that by the end of the year. It would make a big difference."
Dolores will open 2015 with a road game against Newcomb on Jan. 9.
