The Montezuma County road department has been awarded a $1.37 million grant to repave the Kinder Morgan truck route to the Goodman Point facility.
The county will match the grant with $1 million in labor and materials and $350,000 in cash.
Eleven miles of road will be resurfaced with chip-seal, a combination of oil and gravel. The route to be improved begins at Lewis-Arriola at Road U, then south on Road 20, west on Road S, south on Road 17, west on Road P, then south on Road 16. Some areas will have the road base strengthened to handle heavy loads.
The road was last chipped sealed in 2009, said county road supervisor Rob Englehart, and heavy truck traffic has taken its toll.
“The grant was awarded based on damage to the road from the CO2 industry,” he said. “It’s pretty torn up, and needs to be rebuilt.”
Work will begin this summer on the project.
