Residents at the eastern end of County Road N are requesting that the Montezuma County Commission vacate a short section of the road to prevent access to nearby Bureau of Land Management land.
A public hearing is scheduled for Sept. 12 at 1:30 p.m. in the county commission room.
Residents are concerned about increased traffic on the narrow road by recreationists accessing the proposed expansion of the Phil’s World trail system. A connector trail from the end of Road N is shown in the trail expansion plans, but no parking lot is planned there. The road has a green sign, meaning it is owned and maintained by the county. BLM field manager Connie Clementson stated that the BLM supports keeping the section of road open to provide access to public lands.
