New road signs have been posted on roads open to general public use in the Boggy-Glade Travel Management Area. Numbers on road signs correspond with the July 1, 2014 Dolores Ranger District motor vehicle use map.
At certain locations, road closure posts or boulders have been placed on the off-road routes which are no longer open to general public use.
“With the new signs in place, it should be clear which roads are open this fall to public motor vehicle travel and which off-road routes are not,” said Derek Padilla, Dolores District ranger. “I hope this helps the public enjoy the motorized road and trail system, while providing open space between the roads for wildlife habitat and watershed protection.”
The public is encouraged to use the Motor Vehicle Use Map to identify open roads. The latest edition is available free of charge at the Dolores Public Lands office, and online at http://www.fs.usda.gov/main/sanjuan/maps-pubs The game retrieval area boundary and rules for game retrieval in the Boggy-Glade area are also shown on the map.
Information kiosks have been erected at major entrance points into the Boggy-Glade area to welcome visitors and provide information. Camping opportunities are offered within 300 feet on either side of signed open roads, but camping or leaving camping equipment is limited to 14 days in any one spot on the San Juan National Forest. The open road system and game retrieval area were the result of the Boggy-Glade Travel Management decision made in Dec., 2012.
