I can’t help but comment on our sheriffs’ ideas on solving inmate debt. Not only will an outside corporation be more likely to pass, on personal responsibility, it will by nature absorb more personal wealth.
I personally think our county jail has more potential as an investment than most people realize. May I be so bold as to ask Sheriff Nowlin to have the artwork created by those inmates saved for a week? As an amateur art lover I was very impressed at what a cup of Ramen could buy me.
I was also very saddened too see such talent go to waste. Confused at why some of the purest Native designs in the world could not be noticed by their own tribe, I propose as a county we start selling that art. Utes and Navajos, sorry but you had plenty of time to exploit this or do you just send us the bad artists? I also suspect some amazing White and Hispanic art will come out of this.
I also suspect, squeezing money from people who have none will not end well for Montezuma County’s poverty rate, and that Ute Mountain will be the Two Grey Hills of fine native art.
