DENVER (AP) _ Bonanza Creek Energy Inc. (BCEI) on Monday reported a first-quarter loss of $119,000, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.
On a per-share basis, the Denver-based company said it had a loss of 1 cent. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs and stock option expense, were 88 cents per share.
The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 73 cents per share.
The oil and gas company posted revenue of $74.2 million in the period, also beating Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $64.5 million.
Bonanza Creek shares have climbed 75% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Monday, shares hit $33.78, doubling in the last 12 months.
