Denise Bowyer, manager of the Galloping Goose Historical Society, said the event was successful as passengers climbed onboard a full train for nearly all the trips.
The Goose was off its perch on Dolores for the event from Aug. 13, returning on Monday, Aug. 18.
The Goose ran beautifully, Bowyer said, "Thanks to the dedication and hard work of the Galloping Goose Society and volunteers."
In fact, there are four new trainees working to become engineers to drive and maintain the train, a process that takes two years. Currently, there are only two qualified engineers.
Bowyer was happy the event went so well and was thankful for Skanska, who drives and loads the train up to take it to these events and to the San Juan Regional Medical Center, who sponsored the Galloping Goose No. 5 for the event. Also, the Villa Dallavalle Bed and Breakfast in Silverton provided complimentary rooms for the Goose crew members.
Historical society to meet
Speaking of geese, the Galloping Goose Historical Society's annual meeting is Sept. 13. Call 882-7082 for location and information.
Hollywood Day of Remembrance
The Hollywood Bar and Grill will host a Hollywood Day of Remembrance on Tuesday, Aug. 30. The event will celebrate the old and the new with historical photos, local characters, live music and food. See next Thursday's Star for more information
Firefighters on two wheels
You might have wondered why there were so many vehicles parked at the fire department. Kim Jones, of the Dolores Volunteer Fire Department, said the vehicles belong to firefighters from another state who make it an annual tradition to visit Dolores and ride motorcycles.
Another fall, a new festival
The Fall Festival will go on this year. For the third year in a row, the Dolores Chamber of Commerce will host the festival at Flanders Park. This year, it will be Sept. 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. In the past, this event has had baked goods, produce, crafts and more. There also will be games and music. And there's usually free Galloping Goose rides. For information, call 882-7717 or 882-4018.
Take the Escalante survey
The Dolores Chamber of Commerce has launched a survey about Escalante Days. The survey will help guide next year's event. Call the chamber for a link to the survey, 882-4018.
