For many who attended Escalante Days in Dolores, this week was a week of recovering from the flurry of activities. Area businesses reported a very busy weekend - good news for Dolores.
Drivers, watch out for the kids
Just a reminder, school starts Monday, Aug. 18 so be extra careful Monday morning during your morning commute. There will be lots of little children excited to get back to school and they may not be watching where they are going.
Just a note, while the elementary, middle and high schools start next week, Teddy Bear Preschool doesn't start until Aug. 25. There is a parent orientation Friday, Aug. 22 from 9 to 10 a.m., during which the preschool students can bring in their school supplies.
A good weekend to be outside
Lots of people were out this weekend and enjoying the scenic beauty and great fishing along the Dolores River.
A few Dolores residents took advantage of a nice weekend in the high country. Some Dolores residents were spotted on Immogene Pass. Also spotted on Immogene Pass, a large herd of beautiful elk.
Ponying up for college students
Mark Looper at the Pony Expresso in Dolores joked recently that he trained and certified three Dolores High School graduates so that they could work at their college coffee shops as they head off to college.
Public Library opens reading store
The Dolores Public Library opened up the Summer Reading Program Store this week and lots of kids were rewarded for their hard work with book bucks. Kids earned book bucks for attending the summer program and for keeping reading logs. They were able to purchase more books, toys and games with their bucks. What a great end to a great program.
Ruby starts on Christmas Bazaar
Ruby Gonzales was exhausted this week after working hard during Escalante Days, as were a few others. But, despite that, she has already switched gears and is starting to plan for the 31st Annual Christmas Bazaar which is held the first Saturday in December. She had over 50 vendors at last year's Christmas Bazaar and she reported that people are already calling her and trying to book a space. For more information, call Ruby at 882-7717.
Where have pancake eaters gone?
Chuck Melvin, of the K-9 Search and Rescue stated that they sold a lot fewer pancakes this year at the annual pancake fundraiser, but a good time was still had by all. Melvin hopes that more people attend next year and was thankful for all those that helped with the pancake breakfast and to the wonderful people who donated to the silent auction.
