The 2014 high school rodeo season has been a good one for Tanner Lockhart.
First, the Lewis, Colo., resident won numerous regular season events. Then, he was crowned high school state champion in the Saddle Bronc event. Now, Lockhart star has another title to his credit.
Lockhart captured top honors at the Competing at the International Finals Youth Rodeo in Shawnee, Okla., on July 6-12.
After placing second in the first and second rounds with scores of 71 and 76, respectively, Lockhart entered the short go-round needing a big score.
The Dolores High School student delivered, registering a final round score of 80.5 and capturing first place overall.
Lockhart was presented with a championship saddle, buckle and $2,676 in payback money. He also received numerous gift certificates from clothing, hat and boot companies.
Throughout high school, Lockhart amassed numerous titles, while securing thousands of dollars in scholarship funds. He will compete in Colorado Pro Rodeo Association competitions for the remainder of the summer before starting at West Texas College on a full-ride rodeo scholarship.
