The town of Mancos will be holding a community meeting March 9 to discuss and answer questions about the project to replace its historic Main Street Bridge.
The bridge, built in 1912, has deteriorated over the years. Studies from the Colorado Department of Transportation and the town’s engineering firm determined that it needed replacing in the near future.
The permitting and funding process for the project began in 2015. Work is set to begin in April.
The new bridge will be brought to current load and rating standards and will include a conduit for fiber optic. It will allow for two lanes and two sidewalks for safe pedestrian crossing.
The town intends to maintain the bridge’s historic Western feel by maintaining its iconic 1912 stamp, among other things.
Town officials expect that there will be some noises and minor detours during the week, though the process will not block public access to local businesses.
Representatives from the Mancos Marshal’s Office will be present to answer questions regarding law enforcement.
The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Mancos Town Hall.
