Mountain bike race to be held Aug. 9
The Dolores Rotary Club will hold the 16th annual Escalante Days Mountain Bike Race, starting at 9:50 a.m. Aug. 9 at Fifth and Central in Dolores.
There will be cash prizes for winners in the Expert and Single Speed race categories and prizes for first, second and third place in Beginner and Sport race classes. Those beating the Expert course record will be awarded a cash prize, as will the first rider to cross the cattle guard at the top of the hill.

To register by Aug. 6, visit www.active.com (search for “Escalante Days” or “Dolores”). Race-day registration will be from 8 to 9 a.m. in front of the Dolores Medical Office. Preregistration entry is $35, and race-day entry is $45. For course maps, visit www.clubrunner.ca/dolores.
Dolores Rotary Club also will offer a free children’s Bicycle Rodeo after the Children’s Parade on Aug. 8 behind the medical center. The rodeo teaches bicycle safety skills. Participants will receive free bike helmets and will be entered in a drawing to win a new bicycle.
Hardrock scheduled to cross public lands
The 2014 Hardrock Hundred Endurance Run, which will take place July 11 to 13, will use the following public lands during the event:
From 6 to 9 a.m. Friday Bear Creek Trail (Silverton) to Putnam Creek Trail.
From 8 a.m. to noon July 11 – Ice Lake Trail to Grant-Swamp Pass to Ophir Pass Road.
From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 11 – Ophir Pass Road, Oscars Pass Wasatch Trail to Bridal Veil Road (Telluride).
From 4 p.m. to midnight July 11 – Jud Wiebe Trail to Mendota Ridge Trail to Virginius Pass to Camp Bird Road to Bear Creek Trail (Ouray).
From midnight July 11 to 6 a.m. July 12 – Camp Bird Road to Bear Creek Trail (Ouray) to Oh Point Road to the south side of Engineer Pass.
From 6 a.m. to noon July 12 – The south side Engineer Pass to Grouse Gulch Trail to American Basin to Handies Peak to Grizzly Gulch Trail.
From noon to 6 p.m. July 12 – The south side of Cinnamon Pass Road to Cottonwood Creek Trail to Cataract-Pole Pass to the west fork of Pole Creek.
From 6 p.m. July 12 to 6 a.m. July 13 – Maggie Gulch to Stony Pass to Green Mountain Trail to Cunningham Gulch Road to Dives-Little Giant Pass to Arastra Gulch.
