The Montezuma-Cortez High School Culture and Climate Club will sponsor the first ever Souper Bowl of Caring Food Drive through Feb. 7.
Souper Bowl of Caring is a national organization that partners with local schools, churches and individuals to tackle hunger in the United States by gathering food and monetary donations in the weeks leading up to Superbowl Sunday. Since the organization’s inception in 1990, more than $150 million worth of food and funding has been raised to feed the hungry.
This year, Cortez will join the campaign to collect nonperishable food items. At the conclusion of the food drive, all items will be donated to the Good Samaritan Food Center on North Beach Street.
To support this effort, students are asked to take nonperishable food items to school, and drop them off at their class collection room. Parents and community members are invited to contribute by dropping off nonperishable food items to the front office of the high school during regular business hours.
