A Durango woman who crashed through a fence and onto the grounds at Park Elementary School while drunken driving in 2019 was sentenced Tuesday to two years of probation and 10 days in jail.
The Durango Police Department found a car crashed through the chain-link fence early Dec. 28, 2019. The car entered the school yard from East Seventh Avenue.
Officers determined Gabrielle Fultz, 24 at the time, was driving drunk during the crash. Police say Fultz admitted to driving drunk and crashing.
Police also said Fultz was punched in the face by her then-boyfriend, James Andrew Mackay, which caused her to crash. Mackay was sentenced in June to one year of probation after pleading guilty to harassment and domestic violence.
Fultz’s sentencing runs concurrent with a previous DUI offense, according to a clerk at the La Plata County Courthouse.
As part of her jail term, she is eligible for work release. She must pay associated fines and fees, and must take an alcohol and drug evaluation.
As part of the sentencing, Fultz had 65 days of jail time suspended. If she fails to meet the terms of her probation, she could be ordered to serve those days. She must also complete 64 hours of community service within two years.
