San Juan Basin Archaeological Society will host a talk by Dr. Andrew Earles titled “Five Days in Babylon,” at 7 p.m. Wednesday via Zoom.
Babylon is an iconic ancient city that sits on the banks of the Euphrates River and is home to the ruins of the Tower of Babel and the great walls of the city. Earles will provide an overview of Babylon, including the context of the site and surroundings and will explain challenges facing the ruins of Babylon related to surface water drainage and groundwater.
Earles works for Wright Water Engineers Inc. in Denver and leads the company’s practice in hydrology and hydraulics. He is a registered professional engineer in Colorado and 10 other states. He has been involved in paleohydrology work for most of his career. He has studied sites in Peru, Cambodia, China, Thailand, Myanmar, Iraq and France.
