Local Trout Unlimited chapter to meet
The Dolores River Anglers Chapter of Trout Unlimited will meet Monday, April 14 at 6 p.m. for a meet-and-greet downstairs at Fiesta Mexicana.
The program will start at 6:30 p.m., when local guide Ben Hahn will present "How to Fish Streamers." Matt Clark will have an update on the "settling ponds" above Rico.

Meeting on San Juan fund proposals
The San Juan National Forest Secure Rural Schools Act Resource Advisory Committee (RAC) will meet at the San Juan Public Lands Center, 15 Burnett Court in Durango on Tuesday, April 29, 2014. The public is invited.
The purpose of the meeting is for the RAC to review and recommend project proposals funded through Title II of the Secure Rural Schools Act for the San Juan National Forest and adjacent lands within La Plata, Dolores, Montezuma and San Juan counties. Title II funds are available for projects that serve to enhance forest ecosystems, or restore and improve land health and water quality on national forests and nearby lands. The meeting will be held from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m., beginning with reviews of earlier funded projects followed by presentations of new project proposals. A public comment period will be offered from 11 - 11:30 a.m. The RAC will then review and vote on recommendations for funding of new projects.

Library giving away copies of 'Grumpy Bird'
The Dolores Public Library will have a special story time Wednesday, April 16, at 9 a.m. as part of the One Book 4 Colorado project. All four-year-olds in Dolores are invited to come to the library at that time to receive their own copy of Grumpy Bird, by Jeremy Tankard.
Steward program available for farmers
The Colorado Master Steward program in Montezuma County offers a short course to help farmers create a sustainable environment and increase production.
The nine-week course helps to:
Improve soil structure and fertility.
Maintain healthy pastures with fewer weeds.
Understand ways to reduce soil erosion.
Maximize use of irrigation water and promote water quality in rivers.
Maintain defensible space from wildfires.
Classes are Wednesdays from 6 to 8:30 p.m. April 23 through June 18 at the First National Bank of Cortez. Registration fee is $120 per property. Rotary sponsors bingo night April 29
The Dolores Rotary Club will sponsor a bingo night at the Dolores Community Center on April 29. Proceeds benefit Dolores School District students traveling to Washington, D.C., in May.
Bingo kicks off with a light dinner of soup, chili and dessert, for a $5 donation, starting at 6:30 p.m., followed by bingo at 7 p.m.

4 Corners Beekeepers to meet April 21
The monthly meeting of the 4 Corners Beekeepers Association will be on April 21 at 6 p.m. at the Baptist Church on Elmore's Corner (Highways 172 and 160).
The guest speaker will be from Bear Smart Durango. Attendees will learn how to keep bees safe from bears, and how to keep bears safe from beekeepers.
