Southwest Health System recently announced that Dr. Charles Bellows has joined its general surgery team.
Bellows, who is certified by the American Board of Surgeons, last worked as a professor of surgery at the University of New Mexico and chief of surgery at Sandoval Regional Medical Center. He joins Dr. Kevin Matteson at the Southwest Medical Group General Surgery office at 111 North Park St. and performs procedures in-office and at Southwest Memorial Hospital.
Bellows graduated from the Medical College of Pennsylvania and attended graduate school at Harvard University. He completed his residency and research fellowship at Tulane University. He has specialized training in laparoscopic colon resection and in DaVinci robot surgical systems. He also has advanced training in complex bariatric surgery.
Bellows’ awards include three Veterans Affairs Awards, America’s Top Doctor in 2012, and various research awards. He is a member of 14 professional societies, and has most recently served on the Board of Governors for the Society for Experimental Biology and Medicine. He has presented at 13 regional and national lectures and editor-in-chief of three journals and has over 70 publications. He is a current member of Southern Surgical.
He enjoys the outdoors, hiking, horseback riding, and spending time with his fiancé in the beautiful Southwest Colorado weather.
