Durango girls, Bayfield’s Shields shine at Boggy Draw Bear Chase

Bodewes, Kondrat got 1-2 for Demons
Durango’s Avery Cerwin (19) leads Montezuma-Cortez’s Ridley Dennison (67) around a bend early in the Dolores-hosted 2nd Annual Boggy Draw Bear Chase’s girls’ feature Friday evening. Cerwin would ultimately finish 22nd in 29:15; Dennison covered the all-terrain course in a ninth-place 25:52.
Finding welcome shade on a hot day out in Montezuma County, Durango’s Kristina Bodewes (18) runs solo Friday evening through a forested section of the Dolores-hosted 2nd Annual Boggy Draw Bear Chase’s all-terrain route. She would win the girls’ varsity feature, clocking a time of 22:16.
Bayfield’s Zeb Shields (161) started near, and would remain near the front of the pack during the boys’ varsity feature at Dolores High’s 2nd Annual Boggy Draw Bear Chase cross-country meet Friday evening. He would finish second overall on the all-terrain course in a time of 18:21.
With Durango’s Avery Cerwin on her heels, Ignacio’s Maci Barnes (32) begins attacking infamous Boo-Boo Hill late in the Dolores-hosted 2nd Annual Boggy Draw Bear Chase’s girls’ varsity feature Friday evening. Making her Lady Bobcat debut on the all-terrain course, Barnes would finish a team-best sixth overall in a time of 24:57.
Durango’s Angelina Kondrat (22) and Nina Quayle (25) were leaders of the pack early in the Dolores-hosted 2nd Annual Boggy Draw Bear Chase’s girls’ varsity feature Friday evening. Kondrat would end up placing second in 22:25; Quayle placed fourth in 24:01.
Ignacio’s Gabe Tucson (190) runs during the opening mile of the boys’ varsity feature at DHS’ 2nd Annual Boggy Draw Bear Chase Friday evening. Tucson would finish his first cross-country race in 37th place, clocking 29:58 (Vandever would rally to nab 35th in 28:48).
Durango’s Charlie Dillman (171) runs alone through a forested section of the Boggy Draw Bear Chase--hosted by Dolores--course during the 2nd annual meet’s boys’ varsity feature Friday evening. He would place 13th overall in a time of 21:24.
Durango’s Sam Persing (180) keeps a forward focus while leading Telluride’s Cole Paczosa (236) through a forested section of the Boggy Draw Bear Chase--hosted by Dolores--route during the 2nd annual meet’s boys’ varsity feature Friday evening. Persing would end up the Demons’ top finisher in a time of 20:05--a fraction of a tick faster than Paczosa.
Bayfield’s Abby Tate (11) prepares to pass Mancos’ Liz Lund (54) as both begin climbing infamous Boo-Boo Hill late in the Dolores-hosted 2nd Annual Boggy Draw Bear Chase’s girls’ varsity feature Friday evening. Tate would finish a BHS-best 16th overall in 28:02; Lund fell back to 30th in 31:52.
