In a small town, it can be easy to leave your door or car unlocked.
But thefts of items inside cars have surged in Mancos in recent weeks, according to Mancos Marshal Justen Goodall.
The items stolen were small, but Goodall is urging residents to lock their cars and avoid leaving keys or valuable items in their cars, especially overnight.
The Marshal’s Office is investigating the thefts, but “with small items it can be tough,” Goodall said.
The face of a radio was taken in an attempt to steal the entire car radio, as well as other small but valuable items that are “easy to grab,” said Sgt. Brad Ray with the Mancos Marshal’s Office.
There was also a case where someone entered the vehicle and shuffled things around, but didn’t take anything, Ray said.
The locations of the thefts have been sporadic across Mancos, but they occur primarily at places of residence, not in parking lots.
“Make your garage is locked,” Ray said.
