The Dolores Town Board has passed an ordinance allowing it to cancel elections if there aren't enough candidates.
If seats are not contested, or if there are not enough candidates, the cost of an election is not necessary, interim Town Manager Lana Hancock said.
The mayor and three town trustee seats are up for election. However, by the deadline for applications, only Mayor Val Truelsen and Trustee Ginger Black submitted candidate paperwork for an additional term.
The board is therefore expected to cancel the April 1 election, allowed under the new ordinance. Truelsen and Black will be awarded new terms. Vacant trustee positions will be filled by a nomination process and will serve two-year terms.
