FARMINGTON – A large fire Wednesday destroyed a house, an RV and 13 vehicles southeast of Farmington before firefighters calmed the flames.
No injuries were reported, the San Juan County Fire Department said.
The fire temporarily closed roads, cut power to the neighborhood and led to evacuations before the mulitagency response team brought the fire under control about 4 p.m.
The fire closed U.S. Highway 64 from Andrea Drive to Road 5500 for over an hour until about 4:20 p.m. Wednesday. Temporary evacuees from the Wild Horse Valley subdivision were also asked to report to McGee Park for shelter. The Red Cross had established a shelter and cooling center at the park.
Power was also temporarily out for the subdivision for part of the evening, the county fire department said.
The response to the fire included San Juan County Fire Department, Farmington Fire Department, Farmington Police Department, San Juan Regional Medical Center medics, San Juan County Sheriff’s Office, Farmington Electric Utility System and Bureau of Land Management.
The San Juan County Fire Department said the cause of the fire remained under investigation.
