Well rounded as a person and as an athlete, Montezuma-Cortez High School’s 132-pound junior Levi Gross is a jack-of-all-trades.
A standout golfer, Gross seamlessly transforms from a stoic ball-striker in the fall to a grappling machine in the winter.
A state qualifier last season, Gross, who owns a 29-14 record, is hoping that last year’s experience under the Pepsi Center’s bright lights will pay off.
“It’s always a great accomplishment to get there,” said Gross. “It’s important to get your mind set right. You are competing against the best and you have to want it.”
Facing a stiff challenge in the tournament’s first round, Gross will kick things off against Conifer High School’s Bronson Spies (36-2) on Feb. 20.
