BMX, track cycling eliminated as part of $60,000 budget cut
The Fort Lewis College cycling program has won 24 USA Cycling Collegiate National Championships across mountain biking, road racing and cyclo-cross. The program received a 28.5% cut from what it receives from the FLC general fund because of budget shortfalls created by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Fort Lewis College cycling has long attracted the top local athletes from Durango, including Katja Freeburn, a mountain bike and cyclo-cross star for the Skyhawks.
