Mancos families looking for an outdoor educational outlet can now visit the new Story Walk installation at Cottonwood Park.
The project features the book “My Water Comes From the San Juan Mountains,” by Tiffany Fourment, Koren Nyduck, Gary Gianinny and Mary Ann Goff, with illustrations by Dorothy Emerling.
The book is the third in a series begun by Fourment, an environmental educator.
Her first book, “My Water Comes From the Mountains,” traces the path of water from alpine snow to the drinking supply of the Boulder area. Classroom sets of the books were distributed to elementary students in the Boulder and St. Vrain school districts.
The second book, “My Water Comes From the Rocky Mountains,” broadens the reach of the first to include all the Rocky Mountain States, and this third and final book focuses on the rivers and streams of the Western Slope.
The project was the result of a collaboration between the Mancos Creative District, San Juan Mountains Association and the town of Mancos. It was funded through the Montezuma Inspire Coalition Great Outdoors Colorado funding.
According to Anne Beach, executive director of the Mancos Creative District, the book is geared toward upper elementary students, but all can enjoy the Story Walk.
