In terms of pure horsepower, this weekend’s matchup between pitting the Dove Creek girls basketball team against the Norwood Mavericks is tough to beat.
Currently ranked fourth in CHSAA’s 1A basketball poll, the Bulldogs enter the Jan. 25 contest sporting a 9-1 overall record.
Even better however, have been the Norwood Mavericks, who, currently ranked No. 1 in the CHSAA poll, enter Saturday’s contest with an unblemished 8-0 record.
Key to this weekend’s matchup will be the Bulldogs’ ability to contain Mavericks junior Jordan Williams, who enters the contest averaging a team-high 17.3 points.
Also vital to the Mavericks attack figures to be junior Lucia Vikova, who, standing six feet tall, has created major problems for opponents down low.
Leading a balanced Bulldogs attack will be senior guards Jessica and Corissa Guynes, who, between them, average 23 points per game and dish out a combined 5.9 assists.
The play of Bulldogs senior Madison Young also figures to play a key role as the stalwart post enters Saturday’s contest averaging 12.7 points and 9.8 rebounds per game.
If statistics provide any indication, the matchup figures to be an exciting, hard-fought affair, which will undoubtedly highlight this weekend’s local prep-sports schedule.
The game is scheduled to tip off at 5 p.m.
