Law enforcement agencies in the Four Corners region are seeking two men believed to be armed and dangerous after shots were fired at law enforcement officers Thursday in Aneth, Utah.
The shots were allegedly fired by Cecil Vijil, who may be traveling with a man named Gary Lee Jr., according to the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, officials from the FBI, Utah Highway Patrol, and San Juan County Sheriff’s Office have been investigating an incident that happened early in the morning April 30 at the Mexican Hat 7-Eleven convenience store, which allegedly involved Vijil.
“Yesterday afternoon, in Aneth, while investigating the incident, shots were fired at law enforcement officers by the suspect,” the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a Facebook post Friday morning. “No officers were injured.”
The post adds, “Both are considered armed and dangerous. If seen, do not approach these individuals, call 911 or 435-587-2237.”
The Sheriff’s Office has offered a $1,000 reward for information leading to Vijil’s arrest.
The San Juan Record reported Friday morning that the two men are in their late 30s, and the “subject of a massive search in the area,” which included a helicopter from the Utah Department of Public Safety.
The two men were believed to have fled the area in a black truck with the Colorado license plate WAO 698.
Montezuma County Sheriff Steve Nowlin said he had been notified of the suspects. As of noon on Friday, he believed the two men were still at large.
