Wednesday, April 22
6:43 a.m. A driver was cited after his white Chevrolet pickup hit a black Chevrolet Cruz sedan at North Mildred Road and Empire Street. He reported that the sun was in his eyes when he entered the intersection and hit the Cruz. The pickup’s front bumper had damage, and the Cruz has significant side damage. No injuries were reported.
1:51 p.m. A license plate was reported missing April 22.
4:11 p.m. A wallet was reported stolen in the 1300 block of East Main Street. A man stated he dropped the wallet in the parking lot of a fast food restaurant, and video footage showed a man pick it up and drive away. An officer reviewed the video and observed an older man wearing a blue jacket, jeans, hat and brown boots in a two-toned four-door SUV exit the passenger side of the vehicle and pick up the wallet. The vehicle then left the area. The man was instructed to contact the police if any of his cards were used.
4:46 p.m. A black Ford Escape crashed into an auto parts store in the 300 block of South Broadway. The vehicle sustained extensive damage to the driver’s side, including the front left tire being broken off the vehicle. A power pole was also broken, leaving downed lines across the roadway. A witness stated that a man ran from the vehicle after the crash. The driver was later arrested for DUI. Another witness stated the driver of the vehicle swerved to miss a car parked in the parking lot, struck a meter, went airborne, hit the power pole and struck the building. An officer discovered a bottle of whiskey in the front passenger floorboard of the vehicle.
Thursday, April 23
4:45 p.m. A woman using the drive-up lane collided with the south wall of a restaurant in the 1100 block of East Main Street. The crash caused damage to the wall.
9:26 p.m. A cold burglary was reported in the 400 block of South Madison Street. The residents were out of the house from 2:30 to 9:30 p.m. and returned to find the door open. No signs of forced entry were seen. A box containing prescription narcotics was missing.
Saturday, April 25
10:52 p.m. Two unwanted people were reported at a motel in the 500 block of South Broadway. An officer contacted a man in a red Chevrolet who had blood on the right side of his face, his shirt and his pants. When asked for identification, the man produce a small bottle of Fireball instead. The man had two protection orders against consuming alcohol and was taken into custody. A woman also was arrested for violating a no-alcohol order.
Sunday, April 26
6:22 p.m. An officer was flagged down while patrolling the Walmart parking lot. The woman reported her credit card had been used at Walmart. She attempted to cancel her cards and was notified of a denied transaction at Walmart for over $2,300. Surveillance video of the attempted transaction showed a 40- to 50-year-old white man and a 40- to 50-year-old Native American or Hispanic woman attempting to purchase 21 gift cards and other items. The woman appeared to be holding multiple credit/debit cards. The pair left the store, but their vehicle was not identified. Footage from City Market also showed the two suspects from Walmart, and another suspect, enter City Market and surround the victim when she turned her back. The new suspect appeared to reach into her basket and remove something. All three then quickly left the store.
Monday, April 27
5:46 p.m. Several women reportedly were fighting in the 600 block of East Fourth Street. The responding officer observed a woman lying in the grass under a tree in the park on Third Street. The woman was holding a blanket to her right arm and the officer noticed blood on her shirt front. The woman removed the blanket and revealed a cut that was 5 inches long and 2 inches wide. EMS was called. The woman stated she had fallen out a window while drunk. Dispatch confirmed the woman had a protection order against possessing or consuming alcohol. She was transported to the hospital for medical clearance and treatment. She received 14 stitches and was later arrested. The broken window was documented and witness statements were taken. Witnesses reported the woman had been drinking with several people and attacked another person. The other person left the area and witnesses heard glass break. The other person was assisted by a victim advocate in filling out a domestic violence case summary.
