Supermoon graces Dolores River Valley

A few nights before Tuesday’s supermoon, Sunday’s moon was still impressive above the lower Dolores River. The supermoon is the largest of the year, making its closest approach to Earth at 221,918 miles. The moon’s average distance from Earth is 238,855 miles. On March 24, the moon was 252,700 miles away, the farthest it will be in 2020.
Spring has arrived in Southwest Colorado, and even with social distancing, many trails are still open for use. The lower Dolores River saw sunny skies and a handful of hikers on Sunday.
