Hundreds of holiday meals were served at the 25th annual Community Christmas Dinner in Cortez on Wednesday.
Held Christmas Day at the Montezuma County Annex, the free dinner is made possible by scores of volunteers who donate their time to serve hot sit-down meals.
“The Christmas spirit comes alive when you give back,” said volunteer coordinator Mitchell Toms, smiling. “Helping others creates wonderful possibilities. That’s what Christmas is all about.”
Served on disposable plates, the meals included turkey, green beans, mash potatoes and gravy, stuffing, cranberry sauce, rolls and a variety of desserts.
Holiday meals were also delivered to about 50 homebound residents. All leftovers were donated to area soup kitchens and The Bridge Emergency Shelter.
Those in attendance were also treated to live holiday music courtesy of Country Connection.
