Docents at the Durango Arts Center play a big role on educating the community about art.

The next meeting of the Durango Arts Center Docents will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the arts center, 802 East Second Ave. Anyone interested in learning more about the group or volunteering is welcome.

Docents by the numbers

In 2015, the 15 Durango Arts Center Docents:
Served about 965 students, including elementary and middle school students, making 52 school presentations.
Taught classes to about 170 residents at Four Corners Health Care Center and 63 attendees at Our Place over a nine-month period.
Taught six classes to participants in Community Connects, averaging 15 people per visit.
Taught art to 117 residents at the DeNier Center starting in February 2015.
Visited Silverton Peak and Bayfield Calvary academies in addition to schools in Durango.
Spent about 480 hours giving presentations.
