Picking up a newspaper these days all we ever read about are negative happenings. Recently, I was going back over my life and I thought people might find this a more enjoyable change, especially at this time of the season. I am sad right now, but I have wonderful memories.
We seldom think much about death taking away our soul mate, however now and then it does creep into our minds.
My husband would say, “We are going to live to be a hundred years old.” I would remark, “and we will die together.” But things didn’t work out that way.
I met my to be husband when he returned from serving in the army during World War II. A group of us girls attended a square dance each Saturday night. We didn’t go with dates because we wanted to be free to dance with some very good dancers.
One Saturday night while I was there, a handsome smiling guy came in with a buddy. I had heard of “love at first sight” and I can say it is true. This night was the beginning of our courtship.
Within several months we wanted to get married. My dad asked that we wait to make sure of our love. My guy had seen very quick marriages that ended in divorce during the war. We were so sure of our love that it would always be “till death do us part.” We married several months later.
We were married for 63 years when my beloved husband became very ill, he was given three months to live but passed away two months later.
I had this wonderful smiling guy, whom I will always love for the rest of my life.
When you fall in love make sure he is your soul mate. Marriage is commitment to each other.
