San Juan medical receives accreditation
San Juan Regional Medical Center has achieved national accreditation from DNV Healthcare Inc.
This hospital accreditation program is the only one approved by the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services that integrates the International Organization for Standardization 9001 Quality Management System with the Medicare Conditions of Participation.
The accreditation program requires hospitals to evaluate the continuum of patient care throughout its facilities and take measured steps to improve when it’s warranted. Being accredited by DNV allows the medical center to receive reimbursement for its patients covered by Medicare and Medicaid.

Asthma toolkit program available locally
The Southwestern Colorado Area Health Education Center has partnered with National Jewish Health to implement the Asthma Toolkit Program locally.
The program will offer up-to-date training and equipment to primary care providers in Southwest Colorado for diagnosing, treating and managing asthma in the most effective way possible.
Jamie Robb, program manager, and Kathleen McInnis, executive director at the center, recently returned from National Jewish Health in Denver where they received training to become asthma coaches for the area and work with local practices beginning in 2014.
Local providers will receive asthma toolkits with helpful information and will learn spirometry techniques to assess lung conditions and meet the needs of patients.
Additionally, medical offices will receive coaching and support services through the center.
