Half way through her second year of high school, Montezuma-Cortez High School sophomore Wesley Kirks is making a name for herself on and off the athletic field.
A talented four-sport athlete who participates in softball, soccer, track and dance, Kirks combines natural athletic ability with top-notch mental acuity to excel.
During the fall prep season, Kirks appeared in 18 games for the M-CHS varsity softball team, registering a .250 batting average and recording two runs batted in. Kirks also anchored the Panthers’ defense with solid play in the outfield.
Later this school year, Kirks will participate in soccer and track where she figures to excel.
In addition to her team-sport success, Kirks has excelled individually as a dancer and recently qualified for nationals in the Kathy Rose Ultimate Dance Competition.
“I think qualifying for nationals was my biggest accomplishment,” said Kirks.
Much more than a standout athlete, Kirks has excelled in the classroom where she receives A’s and B’s.
“I like history,” Kirks explained.
Speaking of her goals in the near future, Kirks stated that she would like to see the M-CHS soccer team succeed and the M-CHS softball team improve.
“I like to win in soccer because it’s not really fun if you are not winning,” said Kirks.
Considering that Kirks still has two years of high school remaining, the future certainly looks bright for one of M-CHS’s top young athletes.
