Regarding the letter of Mr. Sluis from Durango (“Electoral College is unethical, outdated,” Dec. 26):
What is unethical would be the removal of the Electoral College, making the United States not a republic, where everyone is fairly represented in a national election, but an out of balance democracy where the only persons whose voices are heard would be those from the regions of highest population.
Whether the election of 2016 was pleasing or not to any one individual matters not.
If one isn’t happy with the results, one should get out and work for the candidate of one’s choice, rather than try and change the document, the Constitution, written by men (yes, men), far wiser than I or Mr. Sluis.
It is one of the most brilliant, effective, just, fair and endangered documents ever written.
