After years of preparation and a season of hard work, the Dove Creek Bulldogs volleyball team is ready to compete for a state title.
Ranked No. 1 overall among 1A teams in the state, the Bulldogs (24-0) will compete in the 1A State Volleyball Tournament at the Denver Coliseum, Nov. 8-9.
Twelve total teams, divided among four pools, will participate in the tournament. Pool play will begin on Nov. 8 and conclude on Nov. 9, with the top teams from each pool advancing to the final four.
Placed in Pool I along with 12 seed Kit Carson (16-8) and 8 seedeVail Christian (18-6), the Bulldogs’ path to the final four will not be easy.
The Bulldogs will open pool play on the morning of Nov. 8 against Kit Carson before matching up with Vail Christian on Nov. 9.
“We don’t know much about Kit Carson,” said Bulldogs’ head coach Scott Knuckles. “Vail Christian is pretty good. They have a few upperclassmen and some good hitters. They played us tough in Districts.”
If the Bulldogs advance out of pool play, the state semi finals will occur on the afternoon on Nov. 9. The finals will take place at 7 p.m. on Nov. 9.
“We’ve been working on mental preparation,” said Knuckles. More or less, we are preparing for the atmosphere at state. We just have to take it one match at a time.”
