Mancos school officials voted unanimously Monday, Oct. 28, to finally seal a persistent leaky roof at the Performance Center.
Initially slated to address the issue last month, school officials shelved the repair because of confusion regarding the bid, said superintendent Brian Hanson. The mix-up has since been resolved, and school officials awarded a $58,269 bid to Durango-based T&L Roofing.
"We will be spending close to $58,000 to repair the roof drains, the main area of concern," said Hanson. "The work also includes placing a new roof over both the lower and upper portions of the performance center."
The work will start in November and take two weeks to complete, depending on the weather, Hanson said.
The repair was authorized under a 2014 fiscal year capital reserve expenditure. The action also included authorizing an additional $18,970 for repairs, depending on the situation with the drains.
In other news, Hanson informed school board members that October enrollment numbers have decreased by seven students. The drop equates to a $56,000 loss of revenue.
The board is expected to approve the school's final 2014 budget in December.
