Mancos will host a Colorado League of Women Voters town hall event to promote national popular vote at 7 p.m. Dec. 5 at Mancos Public Library, 211 W. First St.
The session follows the successful filing of a petition to place a measure to repeal the law on Colorado’s 2020 ballot. The town hall event is open to all and will feature a presentation by Colorado State Sen. Mike Foote, who was the main sponsor of the National Popular Vote bill, followed by questions from the audience.
The Compact, which ensures that the presidential candidate who wins the popular vote across all 50 states and the District of Columbia always receives the 270 electoral votes necessary to become president, goes into effect when states with a combined total of at least 270 electoral votes sign on. The Compact currently has 196 electoral votes, and includes 15 states and the District.
