Mr. and Mrs. James V. Salyer from Novi, Mich., were visitors in Dolores this week. Mr. Salyer lived here about 38 years ago, and his father worked at the McPhee Sawmill. They lived in the Lebanon area and also lived up Lost Canyon just this side of Glenco for a while. Salyer attended school in the old grade school that sat where the Dolores State bank now is. He said that the one thing that really stood out in his mind was the old Galloping Goose. While they lived in Lost Canyon the Goose stopped and picked up their cream, and the boys got to ride to town on it from time to time.
Salyer along with his brother Bill, Denver Dempsey, Abe Maestas, Sardo Salas and one other boy were the ones that painted the big "D" on the hill overlooking Dolores. They hung Bill over the cliff on a rope to paint the top half.
