Axis Health System will host a free Mental Health First Aid training open to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 7 at Cortez Integrated Healthcare, 691 E. Empire St.
Similar to First Aid and CPR courses, Mental Health First Aid teaches participants how to help adults who are experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge. The training helps people identify, understand and respond to signs of addiction and mental illness. Anyone can take the Mental Health First Aid course, including first responders, faith community leaders, coaches and other caring citizens.
The National Council for Behavioral Health certifies individuals throughout the nation, including Axis Health System staff, to provide Mental Health First Aid courses. These trainings prepare communities with the knowledge and skills to help people who are developing a mental health problem or experiencing a crisis.
Space is limited and RSVP is required at www.surveymonkey.com/r/MHFAcortez.
