After opening the season with three consecutive losses, the Mancos Bluejays have turned things around.
One week after demolishing the Nucla Mustangs, the Bluejays returned to action against the Plateau Valley Cowboys on Saturday, Sept. 28, and again put on a show, rushing their way to a 74-8 victory.
Highlighting the Bluejays' victory was the play of running back Steven Rohweder.
"(Rohweder) ran well and did an excellent job," Bluejays' head coach Adam Priestley said. "Our offensive line also blocked very well. Austin Howerton and Ty Koppenhafer did an excellent job."
Bluejays' quarterback Drew Morgan was also impressive, using his strong arm to target the Cowboys' weak secondary.
"(Morgan) did an outstanding job of putting the ball in receivers' hands," Priestley said.
As well as the Bluejays offense played, the defense was equally impressive, yielding only one touchdown over 48 minutes.
"Defensively, we hit well and did a great job up front," Priestley said.
With their season record now at 2-3, the Bluejays will begin to prepare for a Friday, Oct. 4, home matchup against the 4-1 Dove Creek Bulldogs.
"My goal is for us to play up to our potential," said Priestley, discussing his team's upcoming matchup. "Dove Creek is a tough team. They are a team that is going to go deep in the playoffs, and we want to try to start to be that caliber of team."
