Homeless campers to relocate south of downtown Durango

La Plata County Sheriff’s Office will oversee move next week
Durango resident Royce Cowan and his dogs, Joey and Zod, walked out to the new homeless camp site on La Posta Road (County Road 213) on Friday to check out the area. “We almost got hit a couple of times on the road walking out here. So this is a long way out here, and I have a disability making it hard to walk this far,” Cowan said. “This is a long way from Manna and no bus service, and where are we supposed to find a flat place to pitch a tent up there?” He also expressed concerns about the area not getting enough sun exposure in the winter.
