The Dolores Harvest Festival and Car Show will take place from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 5 at Flanders Park.
The festival has new events this year, said organizer Susan Lisak, Dolores Chamber of Commerce director. Check out the car show, strongman competition, chili contest, hay rides and petting zoo.
“There will be a lot of fun things to do and see,” she said. “It should be a nice draw.”
Browse rows of vendors offering locally grown produce while sipping fresh apple cider from Teal Cider, of Dolores, and Fenceline Cidery, of Mancos. Local craft beers and wines also will be available.
Marvel at classic and original cars set up along the perimeter of the park while eating a Navajo taco or homemade chili from the competition.
Kids will stay occupied with supervised games set up for them, including bobbing for apples, apple toss contest, three-legged race, dangling doughnut-eating contest, pumpkin painting and a hobbyhorse race on steeds the kids build themselves.
Anyone with a unique or classic vehicle is encouraged to sign up for the car show. Awards will be handed out for best car, truck, paint job and rat rod.
What’s a rat rod?
“It is usually a car put together from different parts, or where the outside is rough but the engine is super cool,” Lisak said. “Anybody who has a classic-ish car or one that is unique, then sign up and bring it over.”
Got a good chili recipe? The contest is for best green and red chili, and anybody can enter. Bring your chili in a crock pot. Participants will vote the favorite, and trophies will be handed out for the winners.
Also, CrossFit Cortez/Evolution Gym will host a strongman competition for kids and adults.
