Landscape painter Rick Young will be Mesa Verde National Park’s final artist-in-residence of the season, Sept. 16 to Sept. 28. He will discuss and show his work to visitors from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday on the porch overlooking Spruce Tree House.
Young, an artist, historian and teacher, has long been familiar with the Four Corners area. As a historian, he researched the history of the Ute tribes and produced the book “The Ute Indians of Colorado in the Twentieth Century.”
Now retired from teaching, Young finds artistic inspiration in the mesas, canyons and cultures of the Four Corners and the Southwestern U.S. He studied art at Miami University of Ohio, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in fine arts. He has painted for 20 years and is represented by Acosta Strong Fine Art in Santa Fe.
Young lives with his wife and two dogs in Castle Rock.
