Commodity distribution set for Saturday, Aug. 17

USDA surplus food commodity distribution will be this Saturday, Aug. 17.

Locations and times are:

Montezuma County Fairgrounds, 30100 Highway 160, 7:30-8 a.m.

Dolores Fire Hall, 45 Railroad Ave., 7:30-8:30 a.m.

Mancos United Methodist Church, 470 Grand Ave., 7:30-8:30 a.m.

Recipients must bring their 2013 commodity cards. For more information, call 564-2722.

The Strater Hotel, owned for decades by Rod Barker and his family, sold the hotel this week to Ross Garrett, who lives in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

The Galloping Goose Historical Society in Dolores works on restoring five rail cars that ran on area rialroad tracks.

Saturday night’s demolition derby drew about 1,600 fans to Fairgrounds Speedway.
